  • Cold Case Investigator Robert Conrad

    March 18, 2019

Richard welcomes cold case detective Robert Condrad to discuss his investigations in to cold cases and how DNA technology and advances in DNA testing have advanced the solving cold cases. They also discuss the Helen Roscoe case, still unsolved, which has surprising personal ties to Richard.

Robert (Bob) Conrad was born and raised in San Diego. After a career in Navy he joined the Chula Vista police department in 1969 and retired in 1995 as a Sergeant and Detective. He was brought back in 2001 to work cold cases. Since then, he has helped solve the previously unsolvable, including the 1991 Laura Arroyo case involving the slaying of a 9-year-old girl. The Arroyo investigation and his probe into the 1995 murder of Pamela Shelley were featured on A&E’s “Cold Case Files.” He also solved the murder of Anita Marie Carrier, Conrad’s first homicide case as a young detective.

Conrad is quick to attribute the ability to put many of these cases to bed to good laboratory work in which evidence was collected and preserved well. “Good lab people — that’s important” he said. Updated methods of DNA identification and fingerprinting help him solve cases that chilled years ago. Likewise, detectives who worked on the cases when they were fresh also play a hand in later success.

  • Danae Davis, Executive Director, and Jarrett Bostwick, Board of Directors, of the Foundation for Animal Care and Education (FACE)

    February 11, 2019

Each year, many animals are brought to their veterinarian with life-threatening conditions. Sadly, many owners cannot afford the critical care their beloved pets need to survive. They are left with one sad choice—euthanasia.

The Foundation for Animal Care and Education (FACE) was established in 2006 by a group of veterinarians and concerned community members to provide financial grants for animal owners who are unable to afford the cost of their pet’s emergency or critical care. FACE proudly works with over 165 veterinary hospitals throughout San Diego County. Veterinary partners make FACE’s work possible by generously discounting their services for qualified FACE patients by at least 25%, and helping to fund raise whenever possible.

What started out as a beautiful vision to stop the surrender and euthanasia of beloved family pets has become a supportive center where families in crisis can get a helping hand to save their pets’ lives. With a tagline of “Saving Pets and Helping Families,” FACE’s work is just as important for the animals we save as it is for the families who are spared the heartbreak of losing their best friend.

FACE relies solely on donations to continue providing access to life-saving veterinary care and to enhance and preserve the quality of life for these loving pets.

    Danae Davis, Executive Director

After graduating from U.C. Santa Barbara with a degree in Global and International Studies, Danae Davis was determined to find work in the nonprofit sector with an aim of making the world a better place. Her love of both animals and her hometown of San Diego drew her to FACE where she started her career as our Grant Coordinator. She was excited about her work helping local families apply for FACE assistance and was even more excited to be quickly promoted within the organization eventually becoming Executive Director.

    Jarrett Bostwick, Board of Directors

Jarrett Bostwick serves as General Counsel & Co-Founder at Spearhead Capital, LLC, and focuses his practice on Wealth Transfer, Philanthropy Planning, Income Tax Planning, and Trusts and Estates.
